Beer cocktails a way to bring out beer flavors for those who want something different

The assignment: talk to Northeast Ohio brewpubs that make cocktails with beer as one of the ingredients about why they offer them and what people like about them.

Hey, no problem. I remember seeing beer cocktails on plenty of menus here and there in recent years. Or so I thought.

Using the web to scan drink menus resulted in nothing. Were all these beer cocktail offerings I’d seen been at establishments out of town?

The Ohana Mama was Avon Brewing Co.’s first beer cocktail. It uses its popular pineapple wheat beer, Ohana, which means “family” in Hawaiian culture.

Avon Brewing Company Aims to Provide Good Atmosphere, Food, Beer

This is the vision for Avon Brewing Company, which is tentatively scheduled to open Aug. 23 at the start of the football season for Avon Local Schools. Dan and Brian Weaver say they bleed Avon and have a goal of providing a family atmosphere with good people, food and, of course, beer. And folks who come into the doors also will get a taste of Avon’s history as the men are working with the Avon Historical Society to have their own copies of photos of the past displayed on the walls.

Dan, who is opening up the brewery with Brian, said the beauty of this business is that they are all family and that’s what they want patrons to feel like when they walk through the door.

Beer is Artistry for Family at Avon Brewing Company

At Avon Brewing Company the secret of the brew is all about artistry of flavors and family.

So when brothers Brian and Dan Weaver and brother-in-law Mathias Hauck opened the pub and grille less than seven months ago at 37040 Detroit Road in Avon, their flagship beer was Ohana Wheat.

“Ohana means family,” said the 39-year-old Hauck of Avon. “We all teared up. After we brewed it professionally and had it on tap here, our first pour was emotional. We all teared up. It’s like all that hard work getting to fruition. It’s like how we do everything. We put a lot of heart and care into our beers.”

Avon Brewing Company Wins County Burger Battle

The Avon Brewing Company took home the title of Overall Best Burger in Lorain County, Visit Lorain County’s interim director Jennifer Kennedy told Lorain County commissioners during a presentation Wednesday morning.

The winner received 286 of 922 votes cast for the best burger during the Burger Battle, which took place Oct. 20 to 29.

A dozen restaurants across the county competed for the title, which was a follow-up to the county’s Restaurant Week promotion in the spring. The restaurants all offered a $9 off-menu specialty burger for the competition, with the burger receiving the most votes winning the title.

Avon Brewery in Top 5 Best Holiday Beer 2017

CLEVELAND, Ohio – After thousands of online votes cast over the past week, Great Lakes Brewing Company’s Christmas Ale has won cleveland.com’s Best Holiday Beer in Cleveland contest.

The majority of the polling period featured a neck-and-neck race between the Christmas Ale and Thirsty Dog Brewing Company’s 12 Dogs of Christmas Ale.

Thirsty Dog ended up taking second place. Saucy Brew Works’ Three Ho’s came in third, Fat Head’s Brewery & Saloon’s Holly Jolly came in fourth and Avon Brewing Company’s Christmas MiraCLE rounded out the Top 5.

Ugly Sweaters, Beautiful Cause

AVON — Avon Brewing Company got ugly on Saturday night — for a good cause — at its Ugly Christmas Sweater Party, which kicked off its food drive to benefit the Salvation Army of Elyria and Friendship Animal Protective League.

“I love that Avon Brewing Company chooses to highlight charities in a fun way,” said Greg Willey, executive director of Friendship APL. “The company not only raises money for the organizations they support but awareness for their missions as well.”

Avon Brewing Company, 37040 Detroit Road, hosts a monthly charity event. Co-owner Mathias Hauck said they like to link fun times with a social purpose.
